KATHA UTSAV 2018

Katha Utsav, a Search for Excellence in Creative Writing, is designed to draw out the storyteller in every child and cultivates a culture of writing among young people. Register now to be a part of Katha Utsav 2018! 

ARE YOU A DREAMER-DOER?

Do you like to weave fantasies, mysteries, action packed adventures, thrillers, sci-fis or poems?

Do you think your writing can change the world?

If we just heard you say ‘YES’, here’s your chance to be a reader-leader.

Pick up your pen and paper. Let your ideas and imagination flow. Be a part of Katha’s unique writers’ workshops to enhance your imagination, to create incredible characters and settings, to think up eye-popping plots, and to learn the tips and tricks that would put the WOW in your writing!

What can be submitted?

Original, engaging stories/ translations/poems that show sensitivity towards other beings.

Upbeat writing, nothing too moralistic.
Writing that delves deep into personal experiences, memories, feelings, pleasures, worries.
Writing that makes you sit up, think and take notice.

Reader-leader Club

Find, inspire and grow talent in your school by registering on the website www.ilovereading.in and
starting a Reader-leader Club. The registered schools will get a password.
Organize an On-the-Spot Search for Excellence in Creative Writing in your school in the following
categories:
Class IV to VII
Class VIII to XII
The selected stories will need to be uploaded on the aforementioned website.
Students can write their stories/poems in English or Hindi.

Creative Writing workshops

OctoberNovember
2018
The selected 1500 semi-finalists and their accompanying mentors will be invited to attend the Regional Writers’ Workshops to hone their talent and win a place in the National Writers’ Workshop.
The semi-finalists will be given an opportunity to further develop and revise their submitted stories/
translations/poems under the guidance of professional writers, poets and translators.
At the conclusion of Regional Writers’ Workshops, students will submit their stories for the FINAL ROUND.

The National Katha Utsav

December 2018
The submissions will be screened by experts who will select about 400-500 of the best entries for the National Katha Utsav 2018.
The finalists and their mentors will be invited to attend the Katha Utsav at New Delhi.The National
Katha Utsav will be a fourday event, with masterclasses by experts from the literary field.
Katha will also organize meetings with publishers and literary agents.

Participation fee per student entry- 500/-
For Schools: Please send the list of all participants and the total fees.
Payment can be made through NEFT transaction OR a Demand Draft in the name of Katha,
A-3, Sarvodaya Enclave, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi – 110017.

Registered schools hold in-school Search for Excellence 16 July to 22 August, 2018
Payment of participation fees by the schools 16 July to 12 September, 2018
Deadline for online submission of chosen stories 16 July to 12 September, 2018
Announcement of semi-finalists for Regional Writers’ Workshops 25 September, 2018
Regional Writers’ Workshops October-November, 2018
Announcement of finalists for the National Katha Utsav 2018 14 November, 2018
