Geological Society of India International Earth Science Olympiad 2018

The International Earth Science Olympiad - IESO, was founded as one of the major activities of the International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO). It is an annual competition for secondary school students. The main aims of the IESO are to encourage students interest and public awareness of Earth Science and to enhance Earth Sciences learning and to enhance Earth Science teaching/learning at school level. The IESO aims further to foster friendly relationships among young learners from different countries and promoting international cooperation in exchanging ideas and materials on Earth sciences and Earth sciences education.

The Geological Society of India is the body responsible for selecting the Indian Team for the International Earth Science Olympiad. So far, the Earth Science Olympiad program in the country involved four stages: (i) National level Entrance Test, (ii) Training Camp culminating in the Indian National Earth Science Olympiad, (iii) Pre-departure training camp and (iv) International Earth Science Olympiad. The Earth Science Olympiad (ESO) is conducted by the ESO Cell at the Geological Society of India constituted by the President, Geological Society of India.

ENTRANCE TEST
An entrance test will be held on 21 January, 2018 at over 75 centers. The 1 ½ hour test at 10.30 am will be in English & comprise objective type questions spanning the Geosphere, Atmosphere, Hydrosphere & Astronomy.
Applications along with a fee of Rs. 100/- by money order or demand draft or cash (in the NAME of test center In-charge) should be sent to the In-charge of the test center where the candidate intends writing the test. The candidate should carry the school identity card and SHOULD NOT CARRY ANY MOBILE PHONE on the day of the test. Twenty ve students chosen in order of merit will attend a Training Camp.

Eligibility
Students studying in X, XI, XII Std. in September 2018

Last Date: 10 January 2018

TRAINING CAMP : The 25-day Training Camp in May 2018 will comprise lectures, discussions, planetarium visit, lab & eld work. The Indian National Earth Science Olympiad will be held at the end of the Camp. The top four students will represent India at the 12th IESO in Thailand.
