The much awaited CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest (CCCC) is will begin from April 18, 2016.
The contest will kick off from DPS Ranchi on April 18, 2016. The preliminary round will end with Bhubaneswar City Round on September 2, 2016.

The CCCC is a unique platform to test vocabulary and lateral thinking among school students in India. A school team of two students each can participate in the contest which is open to students from Class IX to XII. Conducted by Extra-C, it comprises two rounds – City and Grand Finale. The City Round winners converge on the national capital for a two-day Grand Finale. The teams go through a written quarter-final, onstage semi-final and final stages before the winner lifts the National Crossword Champion trophy.

The two phases
A. City Round: Inter-school contest in select cities during April - August, 2016, as per the calendar attached below.
Schools located in the vicinity of the designated cities may also participate. Each team consists of two students who would solve a written cryptic crossword puzzle in 60 minutes.
Winners and the first runner-up teams would receive certificates and prizes.

B. National Round: A two- day event in New Delhi during November-December 2016.

  • The quarter final: A written cryptic crossword puzzle to be solved in 60 minutes by all the qualifying teams. Top 16 teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
  • The semi-final: The teams will be divided into 4 groups of four teams each who will participate in four separate, onstage cryptic crossword contests of 60 minutes duration based on a power point format.
  • The final: Top team from each semi-final and the two best runners-up compete in the onstage final.
  • Winners and runners-up are eligible for following prizes and all participants will receive certificates

i. National Winners: Prizes worth Rs. 25,000 each, trophies and certificates
ii. National Runners-up: Prizes worth Rs. 15,000 each, trophies and certificates
iii. National Finalists (3rd and 4th): Prizes worth Rs. 10,000 each, trophies and certificates
iv. City Round Winners: Trophies and certificates

C. Other Information:
Registration, sample of the CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest formats and other updates about various rounds of the contest can be accessed on:www.crypticsingh.com.
Second class rail fare for two students and one school escort will be reimbursed to the teams competing in the National Round.
